The Media24 Streetwise Challenge
Media24, in partnership with Psitek, is offering a complete package that ensures successful implementation of the Streetwise solution, run over a period of two years. This offers learners and educators access to ICT and enable sponsors to meet their CSI objectives.

This initiative is expected to make a tremendous difference to the lives of the learners involved in the project, while aiding in shaping the future of our country.
The Media24 Streetwise Challenge has been underwritten by BEE Empowered – an independent SANAS-accredited BEE verification agency and member of the Association of Verification Agencies. 100% of the cost of this package will qualify the sponsor for B-BBEE points, split between Socio-Economic Development and Enterprise Development.
All sponsors will receive extensive and highly visible media coverage through Streetwise advertisements which will appear throughout Media24's impressive portfolio of publications. This invaluable media exposure forms part of the Media24 Streetwise Challenge and comes with no extra charge.
By becoming a Streetwise sponsor, corporates have the opportunity to make a sustainable difference to the future of South Africa. By providing the tools necessary to feed hungry young minds, sponsors can lay the foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
Awaken the natural curiosity of young minds

Throughout the world, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has revolutionised education systems, leaving no doubt that ICT holds the potential to transform the South African education system for learners and teachers alike. To date, however, there has been very little progress in implementing this in South Africa and only a small minority of schools have access to computers, with even fewer having reliable Internet connectivity. In some places, predominantly the higher income urban and peri-urban areas, PC labs have proven beneficial. Yet these have been severely hindered by problems relating to cost, reliability, utilisation, connectivity and theft.
In a bid to introduce fast and reliable ICT access to South African schools across the board, Psitek has designed and developed the groundbreaking Streetwise solution and has partnered with publishing mogul, Media24, to offer corporates the opportunity to support the Media24 Streetwise Challenge.
The Media24 Streetwise Challenge has been designed to provide South African schools – urban and rural alike – with much-needed access to information through Internet-based content and services, anywhere with GPRS coverage.
Streetwise Community Partners
To ensure that Streetwise is successfully implemented and supported at each school, Psitek is partnering with established NGOs within the ICT for Education sector to act as Community Partners. The Community Partner serves as the gateway between Psitek and the school, and is responsible for:
- Assisting with school selection and site evaluation
- Initial set-up and implementation, as well as teacher training
- Basic maintenance and repair of Streetwise hardware
- Recruitment, training, support and management of the Streetwise Champion for each school.
The Streetwise Champion is a member of the local community, most likely someone already involved with the school. The Champion is tasked to provide intensive hands-on support to the school and encourage the use of Streetwise by teachers and learners. Working part time at the school, this person is available to train users, assist with Streetwise lessons and to ensure that Streetwise is always ready for action. The Streetwise Champion is also responsible for ensuring the safe storage of the Streetwise terminals when not in use.
