Primary Focus Areas
Staff Training and Development – Psitek’s employees and their development is very high on the agenda. To this end Psitek provides bursaries to members of staff who want to study further. Psitek also runs various accredited programmes in-house and send employees on accredited training courses as and when required. By doing this, Psitek is able to promote staff members when a more challenging position becomes available within the company.
Integrated Community Development – Since inception of the CSI program in 2005, the primary focus has been on education. The focus area has been demonstrated through various projects such as:
- Sandwich Factory projects (because you can’t teach a hungry child)
- Teacher Training Projects (because Educators are the key to the successful implementation of our educational system)
- In addition to these CSI Initiatives, Psitek has, along with SADTU (South African Democratic Teachers Union) Western Cape Provincial’s office’s assistance, been able to further demonstrate its on-going commitment to education by donating school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils and rulers to schools. Approximately 5 000 bags and basic stationery items were donated to rural or farm schools, nominated by the nine provincial offices – the process of which SADTU Western Cape assisted greatly. Psitek coordinated the packing and distribution of the stationery boxes to the different provinces and the freight costs of the courier service was included in our overall spend.
- Psitek has also launched the Feed Forward Programme which focuses on the offering of opportunities for learners to get involved with the company and to get to know the type of roles that Psitek has to offer. Psitek also offers vacation work as well as two bursaries as well. The programme looks at opening up opportunities for learners to get involved in career paths that they are not normally exposed to.
Secondary focus areas
To enable staff to get involved with our projects, Psitek has launched various initiatives which include inter alia:
- Staff Volunteer programme – Psitek has set aside funds to support a staff volunteer programme. To this end Psitek built two houses in October 2008 through Habitat for Humanity.
- Psitek staff also get involved in the community Christmas Parties, giving of their time, energy and passion to bring a smile to those less fortunate.
- Psitek SA (Pty) Ltd is involved with the Heart Beat Foundation and on a regular basis staff assist with various projects related to the centre.
Welfare focus areas
This focus area provides the capital base from which the following funds can be drawn:
- Regional allocation of cash for disaster relief and welfare projects
- CEO discretionary fund
- Ad hoc national welfare and CSI requests
- Communication and PR.
Conclusion
Our CSI focus enables Psitek to give a portion of time, money and effort back to the communities where it and their people come from. Psitek believes that giving employees the opportunity to get involved in the projects, enables them to feel part of the communities that it delivers their products and services into – giving them a sense of pride and belonging.
